Banyan Tree is the national tree of India. Most of branches root themselves build like a new trees over the big vast area. The roots of the banyan tree give rise to more big trunks and so many branches. This tree is considered most valuable and is an integral part of the myths, gurus and legends of India. In olden days all the village debates, small town and village counselling’s, justice given under this tree. In large part of rural India, even today this tree shade is the main point for council meets.
The name of Banyan tree has has beautiful, smooth, shining, stiff and leathery leaves, broadly oval in shape. The flowers and fruits are inconspicuous, the flowers and fruits are being held together in the fig, which is a sort of pouch that contains hundreds of flowers or fruits.
This tree has many medical benefits, in indian traditional medicine, it is used to treat a lot of ailments. The leaf buds used to control the bleeding.
The fruit of the banyan tree has many uses. They should be dried and grinded and 12 grams of it should be taken and mixed with milk. When you drink this daily, your memory improves.
The sticks are used as brushes since olden days in India. The sticks of the banyan tree has many medicinal properties, it strengthens the gums and the roots of the teeth. It is a natural medicine to treat bad breath and pyorrhea.
The pedicel of the flower, should be mixed with the the bark of the fig tree and powdered well. Along with this, add same amount of sugar and mix with milk and used. This is a traditional medicine, used to increase sperm count.
The hanging roots or the Ariel roots is used for breast upliftment. Take the yellowish red part of the hanging roots, grind it and apply the paste on the breast. Droopiness of breast gets reduced.
The banian leaves dried in shade and made into a paste by mixing with equal amount of milk is used in treating menstural problems and white discharge problems in women.
The bark of the banyan tree dried and powdered and mixed with little butter serves as a medicine for white discharge problems in women. 4 grams of this mixture taken in morning and evening is a cure for menstural cramps too. The bark of the banyan tree should be powdered well and mixed with milk, and 6 grams of this when taken daily cures the swelling of the ovary.
The root of the banyan tree, when mixed with water and heated well( made into a kashayam) is a traditional Indian medicine to cure diabetes.
Its fruits are also a good medicine for urinary infections, and urinary tract problems. The fruits should be dried in shade and powdered well. Mix equal amount of sugar and take 5grams of it everyday. This powder is the best medicine for urinary infections.
The bark is also used in treating piles, loss of memory, swollen gums and cough and also early sperm release.
Take about 6 grams of the young leaves of banyan tree, pour some water and grind and filter it. Add some butter to it and consume it. This is an immediate cure for vomitting.
Burn the banyan leaf and take the ash. This ash when consumed along with beetle leaf is a cure for sexually transmitted disease.
The milk that is secreted in the banyan tree is a cure for ear, tooth problems, early sperm release, piles, certain boils also. Even small bruises gets cured when the milk is applied over the affected area.
In general, banyan trees gives coolness and good health.
The world biggest banyan tree is in Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden, Howrah, near Kolkata, India. It is the widest tree in the world in terms of the area of the canopy and is estimated to be around200 to 300 years old. It became diseased after it was struck by lightning, but still it continues to spread to nearby places.
